The highlights since our last meeting in May are:

Roll out
  • The last groups of busses in Copenhagen went into operation with the travel card by 1st July.
  • All the DSB rail station on Funen and in Jutland also went into operation with the travel card by 1st July.
  • The Arriva rail stations in Jutland went into operation by 1st September.
  • The remaining busses in North Jutland goes into operation by 1st October.
  • In conclusion we are then in operation with 90+ % of the originally contracted geographical base.
Customer uptake
  • Current number of travel cards issued is around 150.000. The split is around 60 % of strictly personal card, 40 % flex/personalized and 1-2 % anonymous cards.
  • Around 50.000 travel cards in use every week doing 180.000 journeys.
  • The weekly reload amount is € 600.000.
  • Customer growth has deliberately been kept low and the period used to stabilize processes.
  • The Danish parliament did in June decide on a wide ranging project package for public transport including measures for the travel card:
    • 1 million personal travel cards are free in 2013 and 2014, against the normal price of € 6.7.
    • Off-peak rebate of 20 % for local journeys from 2013 onwards.
    • Extended student/youth card offer giving unlimited local travel and all other travel at 50 % reduction for € 40 /month starting mid 2013.
  • Marketing to increase customer take up will start 1 October leading up to the start of the above incentives early 2013.
  • New customer registration and card ordering is about 75 % self service on the Internet.
  • Self service reloads (Auto, Internet & RVM) is now 80 % of reload amounts and 72 % of reload actions.
  • Customer satisfaction is still good and significantly better than general perception.
  • Customer queries to call center still surprisingly high with 3,500 calls per week of which >50 % is pure information seeking. This is point of attention for customer growth.

System aspects

  • Prototype for new ergonomic, lightweight inspection reader for travel cards, barcode and SMS tickets approved in June. Operational use starts Q1 2013.
  • Check In validators with facilities for composing a group comes into operation end September on all train stations (local, regional, metro etc.)
  • Missing check out is around 1-1.5 % in regions where the travel card has been in commercial use for 1 year or more, but about 3 % in Greater Copenhagen area, which is opened in 2012 with nearly no marketing/information campaign.
